Silence of light - Project Wildeman

  • Zaans Toneelhuis 2 Cornelis van Uitgeeststraat Zaandam, NH, 1508 EH Netherlands (map)

Project Wildeman presents Light Silence. A journey into absolute darkness in live immersive 3D sound and object theater

Light Silence is a sensual ritual performance. A connecting, slowing worship of absolute darkness. Project Wildeman and puppeteer Nick Bos, together with the audience and an astronaut puppet, descend ever more slowly to the ultimate zero: the interior of a black hole, the very darkest mystery of the universe.

All around us in our world, there does seem to be a lot of emphasis on light. Light shines in all places, all the time, even at night. In parks, along paths, in office buildings, harbors, industrial sites. Through a collective performative ritual, we address the question of what all that light does to us and search for a better balance between light and dark. Silence of light embraces the darkness.

What do we lose when we lose the night? How do we reconnect with the darkness? And what do we see when we extinguish all the light?

Lichtstilte will premiere on Sept. 24, 2023, at the Dark Festival in Amsterdam, the largest city in one of the most light-polluted countries in the world, and thereafter will be shown at several special locations in the Netherlands. On Oct. 22, Lichtstilte can be seen and experienced at the Zaans Toneelhuis.

PLUS / Prior to the performance, there will be a brief introduction about black holes by Mark Kristel of People's Observatory Vesta.
