A double concert of The North Holland Wind Ensemble conducted by Lex Bak and the saxophone quartet De kop van Riet with poet Erik de Boer. A concert filled with magical music and provocative poetry that raises dust.
The NHBE (North Holland Wind Ensemble) is a double quintet conducted by Lex Bak. In its 14 years of existence, the NHBE has built up a versatile repertoire. From classical to contemporary music, with soloists, as choral accompaniment, classics, unknown pearls, forgotten music and Dutch and world premieres.
The program they will play is a program "by request. All the pieces have been contributed by the musicians, each with their own motivation. This has created a surprising and diverse program, with music from different eras and in different idioms:
Overture Die Fledermaus (1874) - Johann Strauss
Lied et Scherzo (1910) - Florent Schmitt, soloist Marcel Helmer
Portraits of the Odyssey (2018) - Stacey Berk
With tantalizing poetry and magical music, poet Erik de Boer and saxophone quartet Kop van Riet will bring you an evening of whirlwinds and breaths.
In this contrasting program, striking texts and entrancing sounds alternate. Each using air in a different way, both disciplines bring a breath of fresh air to each other and the audience.
Erik de Boer is from Friesland and is a Dadaist poet. His poems have sometimes begun before one realizes it and are full of word, language and sound play. With his stimulating performance and disruptive lyrics, he sets the audience off on the wrong foot and makes them think. He recites from recent work and his collection Een Waging Pogen.
De Kop van Riet is a Zaans saxophone quartet consisting of Ati Lust (soprano saxophone), Berdien Remmerswaal (alto saxophone), Linda Holleman (tenor saxophone) and Loran Ekkerman (baritone saxophone). This enthusiastic group enjoys showing off the versatility of the instrument. The foursome plays a wide diverse repertoire from classical to modern and from film to world music. They are not afraid of artistic excursions.
