It’s carnival season, and that naturally brings to mind costumes and masks. Masks are used in many cultures to tell stories, celebrate traditions, or become someone else. They can protect, give strength, hide something, or, conversely, reveal who you are.
During this workshop day, we’ll explore the different forms and meanings of masks from cultures around the world together with artists. Starting with the question , “What do you want to express with your mask?” you’ll design and create your own mask. Will it be cheerful, mysterious, powerful, or imaginative? At the end of the day, we’ll bring all the masks to life together.
What is CultuurSnuivers?
Through CultuurSnuivers, we invite all children to explore the rich diversity of cultures that come together in Zaanstad in an accessible and creative way. You don’t need to be familiar with a tradition from home: it’s precisely by creating, playing, and discovering together that children develop their creative talents and deepen their curiosity and understanding of one another.
